Following on from the 2nd performance at St Mary’s Church in Lowgate, Hull, we were asked by Chris Hill to record five Methodist Hymns. We finished these around Christmas time and you can listen to them by clicking on the link below.
The Hymns were: Jacobs Well, Shall we Gather at the River, Blessed Assurance, Dare to be a Daniel and Pass me not O gentle Saviour.

You can watch the entire performance at St Augustines Church, Hedon below – Part 1:

We have a second show during UK Heritage week and this show is based around the Baptist Hymn revival of the late 1700’s and 1800’s. The music of this time is highly interesting as it covers the crossover between religious and early bluegrass/country music and features some very memorable tunes.
For this show we are working with the church musicians at St Mary’s in Thorngumbald
We will be staging the show in both Hedon and at St Mary’s in Lowgate, Hull.
The evening will look at the birth of Methodism and Non-conformism through the words and music of the hymns. The period from 1700 to 1900 witnessed great social upheavals in both Britain and the USA and the rise of Methodism was closely linked to the rise of Trades Unions, Anti-Slavery, and Womens rights movements as well as the Temperance movement.
Many of these hymns, although well known, are no longer sung in churches but have entered the folk tradition.
Wherever possible, we will sing them with their original lyrics and on traditional instruments.
Audience participation is encouraged and a sheet with will be provided with words of the choruses.
